ON DEFECT NUMBERS OF DIRICHLET PROBLEM IN CASE OF MULTIPLE ROOTS

A formula for determining the defect numbers of Dirichlet problem for higher order properly elliptic equation is obtained. It is supposed that the corresponding characteristic equation has two distinct roots of the same multiplicity. In the case of the sixth order equation, a simpler formula using Chebyshev polynomials is obtained
