Abstract

In parallel day-by-day development of technologies, new needs arise, and to meet
them, engineering solutions and equipment upgrading are necessary. Nowadays, in many
countries, there are mobile networks of fifth generation, which allow simultaneously to
serve many subscribers simultaneously, to provide packet transmitting with high-speed and
low delay, access to more networks, and also to reduce the noise level. In mobile networks
of fifth generation, as base station antenna patch-antennas are used. Research and laborato
ry experiments are still going on in this field, because the problem is current, and new solu
tions are necessary to meet modern requirements. The purpose of the work is to design a
base station antenna terminal, which can be used in fifth generation mobile networks and,
in future, in sixth generation mobile networks. This article proposes the design solution of
the so-called hybrid construction: spherical reflector and a set of the ring-shape sectors of
phased arrays mounted on a cylinder-shaped surface of the linear feed. The linear feed with
a cylindrical support surface phased array sectors' elements can be simple patch-antennas,
and connected to a receiver, a transceiver via a feeder/fiber-optic cable, and separately con
trols via reverse switch. The proposed spherical reflector antenna terminal can work in
selected frequency bands (for example 3 nearby ranges of low THz and high GHz), and will
be able to provide operation in different frequency bands at the same time with a high gain
factor. Also, a spherical reflector antenna terminal can work in transmitting and receiving
modes simultaneously. So, such an antenna terminal can work in multiple beam and
multiple frequency range modes. Reconfigurable spherical antenna terminal is easy to be a
tool of the mass-production to be used as an effective node of base stations of high
generation mobile communication networks.
