It is substantiated that an additional reserve for increasing the productivity of the drilling process can be the use of a spiral drill with a multi-stage blade, in which the cutting depths of its cutting stages are determined by the condition that their service life periods are equal.
The purpose of the work is to study the possibility of increasing the service life of the spiral drill with a multi-stage blade based on the development of a method for determining the cutting depths of its each cutting stage based on the condition of equality of their service life periods.
A mathematical model of the process of drilling metals with a spiral drill with a multi-stage blade has been developed to calculate the cutting depths of its each cutting stage from the condition of equality of periods of their durability. A program has been developed in the LabView environment to calculate the total values of torque, axial forces, and the products of all its cutting stages depending on the number of cutting stages determined from the same condition. It has been established that when drilling holes in the 12Х18Н9Т alloy, in comparison with a traditional spiral drill made of high-speed steel, the use of a spiral drill with a multi-stage blade can reduce Psum by 1.6 times, Msum by almost 2 times, and Fsum by up to 23 times.
It is shown that, in comparison with the traditional drilling process, the use of a spiral drill with a multi-stage blade can increase the productivity of the drilling process with an increase in feed rate up to 3.5 times and an increase in the number of revolutions of its rotation up to 2.35 times.
The developed virtual devices can find application in the design processes of multi-stage spiral drills, in the development of technology for processing holes in various metals and alloys, and can also be useful for undergraduates, graduate students and researchers in mechanical engineering specialties when conducting research.
