EXTRACTS FROM THE OPERATIONS OF ARMENAKAN, HNCHAKYAN AND DASHNAKTSAKAN POLITICAL PARTIES IN VAN-VASPOURAKAN

Abstract

At the end of the 19^th century an alarming situation was created in Western Armen­ia. Armenian national political parties sought to prepare the people for the self-defense. The Armenakan, Hnchakyan and Dashnaktsakan parties, operating in Van-Vaspourakan, transpor­tated weapons and ammunition from abroad and armed the hayduks. The heroic self-defense of Van took place in June 1896. The leaders of above-mentioned political parties Mkrtich Avetisyan (Armenakan), Martik/Martiros Sarukhanyan/ (Hnchakyan) and Peto/Aleksader Petrosyan/ (Dashnaktsakan) acted united bravely leading the national rev­o­l­t.
