Abstract

Extraction of non-ferrous metal ores in upland open pits is mainly accompanied by the formation of rock dumps in gorges and in dump areas with difficult relief conditions. At present, several tens of multi-tiered dumps are formed and operate in the upland quarries of Armenia, on which hundreds of millions of cubic meters of rock mass are placed. When designing and developing a rational method for dump formation and determining the capacity of multi-tiered dumps formed in gorges, it is of certain interest to study the nature of the stress distribution in the dump body during their formation. In this regard, certain difficulties arise in the objectivity of the assessment of the stress state and the accuracy of calculations of rational parameters that determine the stability of dump.

At present, in many regions of the world, there is a steady trend of gradual movement of the raw material base into mountainous terrain. Along with other problems caused by the activities of mining under difficult terrain conditions, the significant difficulties arising in the establishment of rational parameters of multi-tiered dumps built in the gorges should be emphasized.

In the design solutions devoted to the construction of multi-tiered dumps in difficult terrain conditions, the issues related to identifying the nature of the change and redistribution of stresses in the rock mass dumped in the gorges have not been sufficiently studied, which is important for substantiating the stability and determining the parameters of a multi-tiered dump.

In this work, an attempt to solve this volumetric problem by the method of physical modeling is made by creating a three-dimensional model stand of a new design, identifying the patterns of the change in the model of a multi-tier dump and determining the stresses in the central axial plane of the equivalent material depending on the value of the dihedral angle formed by the side surfaces of the gorge.
