Abstract

Biotreatment of polluted air by biofiltration depends on many factors, including the type of the filtering materials. The properties and lifespan of the filtering materials determine the biofilter performance. The novelty of this study is the start-up operation of the biofilter packed with mixed organic/inorganic materials with zeolite, and starch as a binder. Thus, the new filtering materials used in this study provide an alternative for biodegradation of toluene vapors from gases. The filtering material is mechanically and chemically strong enough.
