Abstract

Despite the attempts of rapprochement with the Turkish Sultan in the 1890s, the imperial government was considering the capture the straits, presented, in particular, in the projects of the Russian ambassador in Constantinople Nelidov. The maneuvering on this issue in practice was conditioneded by the rivalry of great powers in the Middle East.
