Abstract

In any language, the professional vocabulary can arise together with the development of public relations as a result of professional literature created by the demand of different spheres of science, scientific literature and educational establishments, and all these require the development of lexicography. The creation of scientific and technical terms among the professional words is greatly conditioned by the development of engineering, different branches of industry and production relationships. The issues on the origin of scientific and technical terms and their formation as terminological systems in the Armenian reality are considered. It is shown that since the beginning of the Armenian printing press, the names used for scientific concepts in the created printed dictionaries, particularly in the lexicography of the Mechitarist monks and scientific works have been a basis not only for the Armenian word-stock, but also for the Armenian scientific and technical terminology. Many of the names of the concepts included in the dictionaries are terms belonging to traditional areas of science and engineering: electrical engineering, mechanics and machine science, mining, geology, chemistry.
