Abstract

The sources of the Armenian, Russian and English primordial phraseological units containing body names are considered. The stages of formation of the mentioned units are shown. It is mentioned that according to their origin, these units in the considered languages can be classified into several groups: 1. units coming from popular-physiological interpretations; 2. units which originate from folklore and different literary sources; 3. units originating from national customs, traditions and beliefs.
