THE POETIC IMAGE OF THE LOST FATHERLAND IN V. TOTOVENTS’ NOVEL “LIFE ON THE OLD ROMAN ROAD”

Abstract

The life and routine of a West-Armenian province from the beginning of the 20^th centu­r­y up to the great genocide are briefly described in the novel. A firm confidence is expressed that the memory of the past is not merely the pain of an irretrievable loss. It is also a stable belief in national soul optimistically striving for the future. From this viewpoint the poetics, some linguistic and stylistic peculiarties of the novel have been introduced.
