The urban environment is a complex system comprising two main components: natural and anthropogenic. With intensive urban development, anthropogenic factors begin to dominate over natural ones, inevitably leading to an imbalance in the ecological balance. This change in the structure of the urban environment is becoming one of the key issues of modern urbanism, especially in the context of maintaining the people's quality of life.
Historically, cities were initially formed and developed as centers of economic and social activity. Industrial enterprises were built primarily near large cities, due to the availability of labor, transportation infrastructure, proximity to markets, and other socioeconomic factors. However, as a result of urban expansion, population growth, and territorial densification, nowadays many industrial facilities can be found within urban development. In today's environment, this makes studying their impact on the environment and public health particularly relevant.
RUSAL Armenal CJSC located in a densely populated area of Yerevan, is in a similar situation in Armenia. This company specializes exclusively in the production of aluminum foil. The main production cycle includes smelting, casting, and rolling of primary aluminum ingots, which generates a number of characteristic environmental impacts.
This article examines current issues related to gas emissions and presents a process flow diagram for treating emissions.
