Alkylation of acetoacetic ester (AAE) with benzyl chloride at phase transfer catalysis is investigated. As phase transfer catalysts, catamine AB as quaternary ammonium salt (Quat), and clinoptilolite, on which catamine AB was sorbed, have been used. It is revealed that the selective alkylation of AAE by benzyl chloride in the presence of clinoptilolite saturated by catamine AB is very efficient.
