Abstract

The fishing industry has become one of the priority areas for Armenia, in particular for the regions of the Ararat Valley, where artesian waters are used. In its turn, it causes depletion of underground and artesian waters and portion of above-ground waters (in

particular, the water of the Araks River). At the same time, underground and artesian waters are depleted and above-ground waters (in particular the Araks River) are polluted. To solve these problems, it is necessary to use farms operating on a closed water supply system.

A closed water supply system is an industrial water supply and sanitation system in which water is reused in the same production process without discharging wastewater into natural bodies of water. This system saves fresh water and virtually eliminates the environment pollution. When operating installations with a closed water supply cycle, the process of water purification comes to the fore. Fish waste products, which are toxic, together with other pollutants (rotting algae, food debris) upset the balance between the required amount of oxygen and the resulting gases, which has a detrimental effect on the life activity of fish.

National Polytechnic University of Armenia has developed a closed water supply system for fishery productions, where the purification of contaminated water is carried out in two stages - purification from coarse particles and purification from dissolved substances. River pebbles, expanded perlite, travertine and clinoptilolite are used as cleaners.
