Abstract

Pollution of Lake Sevan is an urgent environmental problem. The decrease in the water level in the lake, as well as the increase in municipal, industrial and agricultural flows poured into the lake, negatively affect the quality of the water. Eutrophication of the lake occurs, the lake “turns green”, the access of oxygen decreases, the survival interval of fish narrows, as a result of which the lake loses its function.

The waters of 28 large and small rivers flow into Lake Sevan, and one river flows out - Hrazdan. Relatively large rivers are Gavaraget and Masrik, which are considered the most polluted by municipal, industrial wastewater. Given that, in addition to municipal and industrial waste, agricultural effluents also enter the rivers, the issues of cleaning the waters of the respective rivers are an urgent problem, which will largely positively affect the water quality of Lake Sevan.

The main goal of the study is to develop a method for purifying river waters from biogenic substances and heavy metal ions before they enter Lake Sevan.

The developed method, protected by a copyright certificate is that the adsorption method is used, and expanded perlite and travertine are selected as adsorbents.

The river Gavaraget is considered as an object of study. Laboratory studies carried out on model and real solutions showed that travertine is a good adsorbent for phosphate ions, namely, the degree of purification is 45...50%.

A diagram of the proposed installation for cleaning rivers is given.
