This paper analyzes the performance of a power steering system on a light commercial vehicle with a rack-and-pinion steering gear. A power steering upgrade is proposed, and the advantages of the upgraded system are presented in comparison to both a standard solution and a modern electrohydraulic power steering system. To confirm this hypothesis, an experimental setup for testing power steering pumps was assembled, and two pumps with different performance levels (different flow rates) were tested. Both power steering pumps were then installed on a test truck for laboratory experiments simulating changes in fluid flow through the flow valve in the power steering system. Based on these results, a conclusion was drawn regarding the impact of fluid flow on power steering performance.
Recommendations are given on investigation and realization of the prototype of the system with a steering hydroaccelerator with a low productivity, as well as recommendations on carrying out tests of an analogous automobile of the class LCV equipped with an electrohydraulic engine of steering, and their comparison with the results of steering.
